WebP Guide
You downloaded a photo from a website. The file ends with .webp. You double click it. Nothing happens. Your photo app says format not supported. This happens because WebP is a new format. Older devices and apps do not recognize it. JPG works everywhere. Converting WebP to JPG solves the problem in seconds.
Our free WebP to JPG converter runs in your browser. No upload. No signup. Your files stay private.
Follow these steps. You will have your JPG file in under ten seconds.
Step 1. Open our free WebP to JPG converter.
Step 2. Click the upload button. Select your WebP file from your device. You can upload multiple files at once.
Step 3. Click Convert. Download your JPG file instantly. No waiting. No quality loss.
Pro tip: Set quality to 92 for the best balance of file size and sharpness. This is our default setting for a reason.
Mobile users face WebP problems daily. Here is the fix.
On iPhone. Open Safari. Go to our converter. Tap upload. Select your WebP from Photos. Tap Convert. The JPG saves to your Files app. Share it anywhere.
On Android. Open Chrome. Go to our converter. Tap upload. Select your WebP from Gallery. Tap Convert. The JPG saves to your Downloads folder.
No app installation required. The tool works in your browser. It runs offline after the page loads.
You have dozens of WebP images. Converting them one by one takes forever. Our tool handles batch conversion.
Select up to 50 WebP files at once. Click Convert. All files convert simultaneously. Download each file individually or as a ZIP archive. Perfect for photographers, web designers, and content creators.
At quality 90 or higher, you will not see any difference. WebP and JPG both use lossy compression. The visual quality at high settings is identical. Our converter uses quality 92 by default. Your eyes will not detect any quality loss.
For archival purposes, use PNG format. PNG is lossless. But file sizes are larger. For everyday sharing and uploading, JPG at 92 quality is the right choice.
Use WebP for website images. Files are 25 to 35 percent smaller. Pages load faster. Google rewards fast loading pages with higher rankings.
Use JPG for everything else. Email attachments. Social media uploads. Printing. Sharing with friends. JPG works on every device ever made. WebP does not.
Keep your originals in WebP for storage. Convert to JPG when you need to share or upload.
Most online converters are not safe. They upload your files to remote servers. They store your images. They may share them with third parties.
Our converter is different. All processing happens in your browser. Your files never leave your device. We never see your images. We never store them. Disconnect from the internet after the page loads. The tool still works perfectly.
Why did my image save as WebP? Modern websites use WebP to load faster. Chrome, Safari, and Firefox automatically request WebP versions. When you save an image, you get the WebP file.
Can I change WebP to JPG without software? Yes. Use our free online converter. No software to install. Works on any device.
How do I convert WebP to JPG on Windows? Open our converter in any browser. Upload your WebP. Click Convert. Download your JPG. Takes ten seconds.
Is there a free WebP to JPG converter? Yes. Our tool is 100 percent free. No signup. No watermark. No limits.
Troubleshooting
Most conversion issues have simple fixes. Here is what to check when things go wrong.
Check the file size. Our tool accepts files up to 20MB. If your file is larger, compress it first. Check the file extension. Some files end with .webp but are not true WebP format. Renaming a JPG to WebP does not work. Use our AVIF to JPG converter for other formats.
The original WebP was probably low resolution. Conversion does not add detail. It only changes the format. Use our AI Image Upscaler before converting. Enlarge the image first. Then convert to JPG. The result will be much sharper.
Large files take longer to process. Files over 10MB may need 10 to 15 seconds. Your internet speed does not matter. The conversion happens on your device. A slower computer or phone will take longer. Close other tabs and apps for faster processing.
iPhones running iOS 15 or older cannot open WebP files. Update your iPhone to iOS 16 or newer. If you cannot update, use our converter. Open Safari. Upload the WebP. Download as JPG. The JPG will open in your Photos app.
Windows 10 Photos app does not support WebP. Windows 11 does. If you use Windows 10, install the free WebP Image Extension from the Microsoft Store. Or use our converter to change WebP to JPG. JPG opens in any version of Windows.
WebP supports different color profiles than JPG. The shift is usually small. If colors look very wrong, the original WebP had an unusual color profile. Convert to PNG first using our JPG to PNG converter. Then convert that PNG to JPG. This preserves color accuracy.
Still having issues? Try these three steps. Clear your browser cache. Refresh the page. Upload your file again. Most problems are temporary browser issues. Our tool runs locally. A simple refresh fixes most errors.
More Guides
Image compression is the process of reducing a file's size by removing data. This includes data you cannot see in lossless compression or data your brain fills in automatically with lossy compression. When you convert a WebP to JPG using our tool, you are doing lossy compression. The JPG format throws away some pixel data to achieve a smaller file. At 90 percent quality or higher, your eyes cannot tell the difference on screen.
For websites, this matters enormously. Google's Core Web Vitals scores your page on how fast images load. A page with 10 unoptimized WebP images that will not convert properly is slower and harder to manage than a page with 10 clean, optimized JPGs.
This is one of the most searched image questions. People need to hit a specific file size for a form, government portal, or job application. Here is the method that works every time.
Step 1: Convert your WebP to JPG using the tool above at quality 80.
Step 2: Take the resulting JPG to our Image Compressor.
Step 3: Set the target size to 25KB. Done. The tool handles the compression automatically. You do not need to guess the quality setting.
Important: You cannot shrink a 4MB image to 25KB without some visible quality reduction. For passport photos, form uploads, and ID images, 25 to 50KB is perfectly acceptable. It looks fine in print.
When you convert WebP to JPG for printing, resolution matters more than file size. Print uses DPI, which stands for dots per inch. Higher DPI means sharper print at a given physical size.
For standard print quality you need at least 300 DPI. For large format prints like banners and posters, 150 DPI is acceptable. You view these from a distance. For screen display, 72 to 96 DPI is standard.
Our converter maintains the original pixel dimensions of your image. If you need to resize the actual pixel dimensions, use our Image Cropper to trim or resize before converting.
It depends on the level of compression. Light compression at 85 to 95 percent quality is effectively invisible. You would need to zoom in to 300 percent and look at fine details like hair or text edges to spot any difference. This is why we default to 92. Size reduction is significant. Quality loss is undetectable.
Heavy compression below 70 percent starts to show blocking artifacts. These are pixelated squares visible in smooth gradients like skies and skin tones. For anything where quality matters, stay above 80 percent.
4K images are 3840 by 2160 pixels. Modern cameras and phones produce these files at 8 to 25 MB. When you convert them to JPG at quality 92, they usually come out at 4 to 8 MB. For sharing, that is still large. Here is the optimal workflow.
1. Convert WebP to JPG above at quality 92.
2. Open the JPG in our Image Compressor.
3. Set target to 500KB for WhatsApp sharing, 1MB for email, or 2MB for social media. The tool handles the rest automatically.
Using a tool that runs in your browser is completely safe. Our tool uses your device's own processing power. Nothing touches our servers. We never see your images. We never store them. We never share them. It is genuinely private because there is no upload happening in the first place.
Be careful with tools that require account creation or that upload to cloud processing. Read their privacy policy carefully. Some keep your files for up to 30 days. With a browser based tool like ours, that concern does not exist.

Common Questions
Use the tool at the top of this page. Upload your WebP file, set your preferred quality (we recommend 92), and click Convert. Your JPG downloads instantly. It's 100% free with no signup, no account, and no watermark.
Yes — our tool supports batch conversion. You can upload multiple WebP files in one go and convert them all at the same time. Each file converts independently so there's no quality mixing between files.
At quality settings of 90 and above, the difference is practically invisible. Both formats are lossy, but at high quality settings your eyes genuinely cannot detect any difference on screen or in print. For maximum quality, use 95–100.
WebP is a newer format created by Google for web browsers. Older versions of Windows, some photo editors, and certain apps don't support it natively. Converting to JPG solves this instantly — JPG is supported by literally every device, app, and platform on the planet.
With our tool, yes — completely. All conversion happens directly in your browser using JavaScript. Your images are never uploaded to any server. We never see your files, never store them, and never have access to them. You can even turn off your Wi-Fi after the page loads and the tool still works.
Quality 85 is perfect for WhatsApp. It gives you a sharp image at a reasonable file size (usually under 500KB for most photos). WhatsApp compresses images itself when you send them anyway, so there's no point using 100% quality before sending.
Yes — open Safari on your iPhone, come to this page, upload your WebP file, convert, and download. The JPG saves to your Files app. No app needed, no App Store download, no account. Works on iOS 14 and later.
