Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Pakistan Zakat calculation in Islam

What is Nisab and why is it important for Pakistan Zakat?
Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must possess before Pakistan Zakat becomes obligatory. It is equivalent to 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. If your wealth is below Nisab, you are not required to pay Pakistan Zakat.
Do I pay Pakistan Zakat on gold jewelry I wear?
According to the majority of scholars (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i), gold jewelry worn regularly is still Zakatable for Pakistan Zakat. Some Hanbali scholars exempt jewelry for personal use, but the safer opinion is to pay Pakistan Zakat on all gold regardless of use.
When should I pay my Pakistan Zakat?
Pakistan Zakat is due once every lunar year (Hijri calendar) from the date your wealth first exceeded the Nisab threshold. Many Muslims choose to pay during Ramadan for multiplied rewards, but Pakistan Zakat can be paid anytime during the year.
Can I deduct my home loan from Pakistan Zakat calculation?
Only the immediate installment due within the next 12 months can be deducted for Pakistan Zakat calculation. The total loan amount cannot be deducted because you still possess the underlying asset (the house).
Do I pay Pakistan Zakat on my retirement fund (PF/ Pension)?
If you can withdraw the retirement fund without restriction, Pakistan Zakat is due every year. If it is restricted until retirement, Pakistan Zakat is only due once upon receipt, then yearly thereafter if it remains in your possession.
