Remove Background From Portrait Photos

Switch the tool to Portrait Mode before uploading. This mode uses an AI model specifically trained on human hair, skin tones and face edges — the areas where generic background removers fail most.

Portrait mode handles flyaway hair, glasses, earrings and beard stubble cleanly. After removal, use the Edge Refinement slider to add a small feather — this removes the harsh cut-out look and makes the result appear naturally photographed against the new background.

For the best portrait results, shoot your subject against a single-color background. High contrast between subject and background (a person against a white wall, for example) gives the AI the clearest signal to work with.

Product Photo Background Removal

Use General Mode for products, objects and e-commerce photos. This handles straight edges, packaging text, reflective surfaces and irregular shapes well.

Before removing the background, crop your product image tightly — the less empty background the tool sees, the more accurately it isolates the subject. After removal, set a white background for marketplace listings (Daraz, Amazon, Shopify all require white backgrounds for product thumbnails).

How to Remove a Background on iPhone

Using iOS 16+ built-in: Open your photo in the Photos app, press and hold on the subject until it glows with a shimmer effect. Tap Copy. You can now paste the cutout anywhere — this is Apple's native subject lift feature and works offline.

For a proper transparent PNG on iPhone: Open this tool in Safari, tap the upload area and select your photo from the camera roll. The AI processes it and the transparent PNG downloads directly to your Files app. This gives you a proper PNG file you can share, upload or use in design apps — Apple's method only works for paste operations within iOS.

Make a Logo Background Transparent

Logos on white backgrounds are one of the most common use cases. Use General Mode — the AI handles flat graphic shapes and text outlines cleanly, even on logos with thin serifs or small details.

For a logo that was created as a JPG (and therefore has no transparency data), the AI will remove the white background and give you a PNG with a transparent background. You can then place it over any colored surface without a white box around it.

For very detailed vector logos, the cleanest result comes from the original vector file. If you have a CDR, SVG or EPS, convert it to a format with native transparency support rather than removing a background from a rasterised JPG.

Getting Clean Edges — Pro Tips

The quality of your input determines the quality of the output more than any other factor. Follow these practices for the best results:

• Crop close to the subject before removing the background — use our Image Cropper to trim away excess background first. Less background area = more accurate subject detection.
• Good lighting matters — even, well-lit subjects separate cleanly from backgrounds. Harsh shadows that fall onto the background confuse the AI into keeping parts of the shadow.
• Use Portrait Mode for people — even if only one person is in the photo. General mode often leaves haloes around hair.
• Raise edge feathering slightly (3–5px) for photos shot with a phone — this softens the digital-cut look that appears with sharp edges.
• Complex backgrounds are harder — a person standing in a forest is harder than a person against a wall. For complex scenes, the result may need minor touch-ups in a photo editor after downloading.
